AirSpace Projects is expanding it’s exhibition space into the indoor driveway and basement next door. The new development also includes a workshop/seminar area as well as an outdoor courtyard where Sarah Newall is currently undertaking a three-month sustainability project. To celebrate this expansion, we are holding a group exhibition called Openings. Artists will be interpreting the term as they see fit.

This work is occupied and animated by a performer so that it appears to hover between utlititarian object and living form. Once the performance is completed it takes on other configurations in its resting form.

Cindy Yuen-Zhe Chen

The human voice forms an invisible thread connecting one person to another. Linking mouths to ears, vocal vibrations join the openings into our bodies. Through physical resonance, we can affect the mental and emotional state of another being. This ink study is a visual exploration of this thread.

 Rox De Luca

Rox De Luca is a visual artist based in Sydney Australia. She received a Bachelor of Arts (Visual) from Canberra School of Art (1985) and a Graduate Diploma in Arts Administration, University of NSW (1988).

De Luca’s recent works focus on the concepts of abundance, excess and waste; and are reflections on the plastic detritus she collects predominantly from Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach.

Money speaks many languages in the modern world. I have used money as a symbol of good luck as it can open many possibilities in life. Often used as a dedication in religion or as a gift on special occasions especially in a superstitious culture such as Korea.

banner for Sculpture by the Sea (Tamarama), 2014, was a work installed along the south railing above Tamarama beach for the duration of the 2014 Sculpture by the Sea exhibition. The work functioned as a spatial painting, set against the dramatic landscape of the beach. The banner is the latest in a series of works commenced in 2012, that use stripes based on various fabric patterns as a form of expanded painting, exploring size and scale in architectural space. This body of work presents the striped motif in different formats and uses different materials to create large-scale installations that respond to architectural spaces or the landscape.
