Sites that facilitate queer and homosexual erotic encounters are diverse. Clustered throughout the city, toilets, bathhouses, parks and the streets themselves are sites of queer sexual resistance which, when they lay dormant, can be activated with a single glance.

Love Shack is a series devoted to men’s public toilets and the tension between their two uses: one of mundane necessity and the other of the need for covert and convenient homosexual gratification. By posing as an initiate, I was able to participate in regular observation of instant sex in men’s public toilets.

I extracted samples from subjects to create portraits as well as passed and received notes. Each is plucked out of its porcelain context and scanned, yet together they speak to the ways we negotiate our desires and reveal both the pragmatism, as well as the meticulously choreographed seduction, at play.

Cum Laude is a study of sex in the semi-public setting of the gay bathhouse. The series diminishes biological imperatives, as semen filled condoms, unsheathed on site, are presented contorted as a taxonomy of alluring sexual ephemera. At the same time biological and sensual, the objects are honoured as jewel-like globules.
